The auto industry is in a rush to produce the next generation of driverless cars. Despite not having an automobile industry of its own, many Swiss firms produce parts and machines for the sector. We look at the Swiss start-ups that have already jumped on the autonomous vehicle bandwagon.

Wednesday

The Schweizermacher (The Swissmakers) movie was a comedy that depicted the ludicrous lengths that Swiss officials went to check up on foreigners who had applied for citizenship. It caused quite a sensation when it was released in 1978, but it is still relevant nearly 40 years later. In this video interview with director Rolf Lyssy we ask how he would make the movie today.

Thursday

Switzerland has many successful entrepreneurs, some of whom have become billionaires through their business acumen. In keeping with the times, some have decided to give away a portion of their fortunes to help the next generation of Swiss start-ups. We look at how philanthropists are funding the potential new Nestlés of tomorrow.

We also take a look at a planned CHF29.5 million ($29.8 million) testing laboratory that has put the latest Swiss alternative energy ideas into practice. The Next Evolution in Sustainable Building Technologies (NEST) incubator will be up and running in May, testing a range of cutting edge research projects, such as glass architecture and construction with natural, lightweight, and/or recyclable materials.
