About us Understanding Switzerland

SWI swissinfo.ch is the international unit of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR).

As part of its public service mandate, swissinfo.ch provides independent reporting on Switzerland, exploring developments and decisions in detail, and delivering essential context so the stories are understood beyond the country's borders. Instead of Swiss clichés, swissinfo.ch takes the pulse of the real Switzerland, its politics, economics and societal issues.

swissinfo.ch reports on and provides analysis of the nation's system of direct democracy, which results in nationwide votes a few times a year. Swiss foreign policy, multinational corporations and international institutions headquartered in Switzerland, as well as cutting edge scientific research are covered in depth. A view from Switzerland on big international stories provides a more nuanced perspective of global events.

Swiss expatriates are a key audience of swissinfo.ch. This group spread around the world remain closely tied to their homeland and therefore depend on unbiased, up-to-date information in order to exercise their voting rights.

swissinfo.ch is one of four news and broadcasting channels mandated to provide a service for foreign audiences. The others are:  tvsvizzera.it, TV5 Monde and 3Sat.

swissinfo.ch reaches about one million users ("unique clients") worldwide every month.
