(Bloomberg) -- Nearly a quarter of Switzerland’s residents are foreigners, with the number passing the 2 million mark in 2015. The influx of newcomers, most of whom come from the neighboring European Union, prompted the Swiss to vote for immigration curbs in a 2014 plebiscite, putting the country on a potential collision course with the bloc. To break the impasse, parliament’s lower house suggested a compromise, with the upper chamber set to consider the plan this week.
