UBS Names Bretton Investment Bank CFO After Lewis Drops Out

Dec. 12 (Bloomberg) — UBS Group AG appointed Nigel Bretton as chief financial officer for the investment bank after Jonathan Lewis decided to stay with his previous employer, Nomura Holdings Inc.

Bretton will take over the role in addition to being named as the U.K. CFO, UBS said in a memo to staff, whose contents were confirmed by a spokeswoman. The Zurich-based bank had announced the appointment of Lewis last month, with him scheduled to take up the post in February.

Switzerland’s largest bank had hired Lewis, formerly co- deputy CFO at Nomura, to replace Bob Stefanowski, according to a memo to staff last month. Nomura said in a statement today that Lewis was appointed chief executive officer for Europe, Middle East and Africa. He had joined the bank in 2008, holding roles including CFO for the wholesale division and CFO of EMEA.

Bretton joined UBS in September as head of U.K. regional controlling after having previously worked for companies including the Royal Bank of Scotland Plc and Credit Suisse Group AG, according to the bank’s memo. He has nearly 30 years of experience in the financial industry, it said.

He will continue to perform duties as head of U.K. regional controlling until a replacement is announced, UBS said. In his new capacity, Bretton will report to UBS Group CFO Tom Naratil and the CEO of the investment bank Andrea Orcel.
