Japan Protests China's Anti-Japanese Rally -Kyodo
TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan protested to China on Saturdayafter an anti-Japanese rally turned violent in Beijing, wherethousands smashed windows and threw rocks at the Japaneseembassy and ambassador's residence, Kyodo news agency said.
Chinese demonstrators had been marching peacefully underheavy police guard at various places in the Chinese capital toprotest what many see as Japan's whitewashing of its militaristpast and oppose Tokyo's bid for a permanent seat on the UnitedNations Security Council.
Kyodo said Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Shotaro Yachi hadprotested the rally at the embassy and asked Chinese Ministerto Japan Cheng Yonghua to strengthen security there. Cheng saidhe would immediately report the request to his government.
