Swiss fencer Fabian Kauter has won a bronze medal in the individual épée at the 2011 World Championships in Catania, Sicily.

It is the 26-year-old’s first World Championship medal, and the first for a Swiss since 2001, when Basil Hoffmann won silver and Gianna Hablützel-Bürki bronze.
Kauter, from Bern, was beaten 15-12 by Paolo Pizzo in the first semi-final. There is no match for third place.
