Match fixing Thun player bribed to throw match

Former FC Thun footballer Pape Omar Faye was found guilty of throwing two games back in 2009. He described how he was drawn into one of the biggest match-fixing scandals in European football history in 2009 – and how it ended his career.

The Swiss Football Association and Fifa suspended him for life in 2011, and he was fined 15 000 francs by the federal prosecutor. He is now back home in Senegal. In an exclusive interview with Swiss television, he talked about his role in the scandal.

Three players from FC Gossau and FC Thun, accused of throwing matches for the same international match-fixing and illegal betting ring that Fayé was involved with, were acquitted earlier this month at the Criminal High Court in Bellinzona due to legal technicalities. (RTS/
