Portraits of emancipation

To celebrate 150 years of equal rights for Jews in Switzerland, renowned Bernese photographer Alexander Jaquemet’s works are currently being exhibited at the Kornhausforum in Bern. Open until February 27, the exhibition features portraits of 15 Jews from various parts of Switzerland, both young and old, well-known and anonymous.

The images “speak of dreams realised, aspirations, love for the homeland, proximity and distance”. Visitors are offered a glimpse of their “concerns, their manner of expressing their Jewishness, and their relationship with Switzerland.” It is a journey that delves deep into their unique world with a perspective on the idea of living together in an open and diverse Switzerland.

After Bern, the exhibition will move to various parts of Switzerland through the whole of 2016.
