Jamiroquai and N.E.R.D to headline Montreux Jazz Festival

Nick Cave, Jamiroquai, Gregory Porter, Charlotte Gainsbourg and N.E.R.D are some of the big-name acts featuring at the 52nd Montreux Jazz Festival this summer. 

In all, some 120 artists are taking part in the prestigious music festival on the shores of Lake Geneva from June 29 to July 14. The line-upExternal link includes Van Morrison, Iggy Pop, Queens of The Stone Age, Gilberto Gil, Jack White, Deep Purple, Stanley Clarke, John Cale, Avishai Cohen, Chick Corea, Selah Sue and Seu Jorge.

This year’s programme is “consistent, dense and rock-influenced, especially on the Stravinski [stage],” said festival director Mathieu Jaton on Tuesday.

This summer the Petit Palais building opposite the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace Hotel will be transformed into a new two-floor venue to complement the existing concert halls, such as the 4,000-capacity Stravinski Hall and the Montreux Jazz Lab. The Montreux Jazz Club will also expand its capacity from 300 to 600 places.

This year’s budget is CHF28 million ($29 million) for the event that draws some 230,000 fans to the lakeside resort. Tickets will go on sale from April 18 at 12 noon (Swiss time): the price range is CHF55 to CHF335 for seats for Jamiroquai.

The first Montreux Jazz Festival in 1967 lasted three days and had a budget of CHF10,000 ($8,000).
