New Miss Switzerland crowned

A Lucerne 21-year-old biology student has been crowned Miss Switzerland 2010.

Kerstin Cook, who has both Swiss and English origins, was chosen for the title on Saturday night in a contest shown once a year on the three national television channels.

Cook has been modeling since the age of 15 and has been in a relationship with Lucerne Football Club defender Silvan Büchli for three years.

During her year-long reign, she could earn more than SFr400,000 ($406,965).

Last year’s winner Linda Fäh made SFr480,000 during her reign.

Among the gifts Cook will be given is a SFr36,000 car.

The runners-up were Sabrina Guilloud from Geneva who came second and Jennifer Hurschler from Zurich who was third.
