JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa's opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) led in the symbolic Nelson Mandela Bay municipality on Thursday in local elections seen as a barometer of the ruling ANC's wider popularity two decades after the end of apartheid.

The DA had 53 percent of the votes compared with 37 percent garnered by the African National Congress (ANC), with 62 percent of the vote counted.
