Get swissinfo News on your Desktop!

For permanent and fast access to the news on swissinfo, you can place our News Ticker on your Windows Active Desktop. In this way, you can always read the latest headlines in whatever size window you choose and with a simple click of the mouse access the news at high speed without having to open a new window. (For regular updates, you will need permanent Internet access, otherwise the news will only appear on your screen when you are actually online.)

And this is how you can get swissinfo news onto your (active) desktop:

Windows XP

  • Do a right-hand mouse click over an empty area of your desktop, and then choose Properties.
  • In Display properties window choose Desktop.
  • Click on Customize Desktop.
  • In Desktop Items choose Web.
  • Then Click on New.
  • For Location give the following URL: http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/index.html?siteSect=890
  • Answer everything with OK.
  • That's it! Now it's up to you to decide the position and size of the window.

Windows 2000

  • Do a right-hand mouse click over an empty area of your desktop, and then choose Active Desktop.
  • Click on NewDesktop Item.
  • For Location give the following URL: http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/index.html?siteSect=890
  • and then click on OK.
  • next (the window "Add item to Active Desktop" will appear) click OK once again und then wait until the synchronization is finished.
  • That's it! Now it's up to you to decide the position and size of the window.

Windows 95/98/NT

  • Open My Computer.
  • Open Control Panel.
  • Open in the Tools menu the Folder Options.
  • In the General Index tab, under Active Desktop, click in the box on Show Web content on my Active desktop.
  • Do a right-hand mouse click on an empty area of your desktop, and then choose Active Desktop.
  • Click on New Desktop Item.
  • For Location give the following URL:
    http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/index.html?siteSect=890
  • and then click on OK.
  • and then (the window "Add item to Active Desktop" will appear) click once more on OK.
  • That's it! Now it's up to you to decide the position and size of the window.

There is no Active Desktop for Macintosh available
