Bacsinszky nets first tennis title

Unseeded Swiss tennis player Timea Bacsinszky has beaten six-seeded Sabine Lisicki of Germany to win her first ever women's singles final.

Playing aggressively, Bacsinszky won 6-2, 7-5, at the Luxembourg Open on Sunday.

The Swiss had already upset fifth-seed Yanina Wickmayer 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 in her semifinal, ending the Belgian's eight-match winning streak.

She also gained from the fact that the two favourites, the Belgian Kim Clijsters and the Dane, Caroline Wozniacki, were eliminated early on.

"I'll never be Martina Hingis or Roger Federer, I know. What's important to me is to enjoy myself on court and not to have any regrets at the end of my career," Bacsinszky said after her match.

Sunday's win brings 20-year-old from Lausanne back into the first 60 in the women's rankings. Previously she was number 70. Her best was number 48, which she reached in mid October last year.
