Old-time Biel through the lens

The exhibition "Biel – (extra)ordinary“ in conjunction with the Biel Festival of Photography shows everyday life in the city during the 1950s and 1960s – with a twist. At the time, the police had hired a photographer to capture events with his camera.

These photos, on display for the first time, show accidents and street scenes in eccentric and enigmatic ways. They also depict the city’s traditions and customs as well as urban development, often with a touch of humour. Because the original photos had barely any captions or descriptions, exhibition visitors are invited to write information and details about the pictures in an accompanying book.
