Provocative posters about disabled shelved

A controversial poster campaign to promote the re-integration into the labour market of disabled people has been suspended.

Interior Minister Didier Burkhalter – in line with the Federal Social Security Office - decided against a second series of posters, to be published next spring, a spokesman confirmed.

He added the aim to tackle prejudices against the disabled had been missed.

An initial campaign in November, which cost about SFr800,000 ($800,000), caused an outcry among organisations for the disabled.

The Pro Infirmis group on Saturday said it was pleased with Burkhalter's decision.

The posters were part of a four-year publicity campaign. The government spends SFr1.5 million annually on re-integration efforts of the disabled.
