Switzerland condemns devastating Kabul bombing
Switzerland has spoken out against the perpetrators of a vehicle bomb attack in Kabul, Afghanistan, that has left at least 80 dead. A building housing Swiss development workers was damaged, but no Swiss casualties have been reported.
The Swiss foreign ministry issued a statement on Wednesday saying it “strongly condemned” the “despicable attack” and said its thoughts are with the injured and the families of people who were killed.
The powerful bomb went off at morning rush hour near Zanbaq Square, the heavily fortified area of Afghanistan’s capital that contains many diplomatic offices. Around 350 people were reported as injured in addition to the dozens of deaths.
The Kabul office of the Swiss Agency for Development and CooperationExternal link (SDC) had several windows blasted out by the force of the explosion. No SDC staff or other Swiss are thought to have been hurt, the foreign ministry said in its statement.
Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter has contacted his Afghan counterpart, Salahuddin Rabani, to express his condolences.
