Swiss government to probe PLO connection

Former Swiss Foreign Minister Pierre Graber is said to have conducted a secret meeting with the PLO in 1970 to prevent further attacks on Switzerland Keystone

A working group will look into the relationship between Switzerland and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in the 1970s. 

The new group will include representatives of the justice as well as the foreign and defence ministries. It was formed in response to revelations in the book Schweizer Terrorjahre (Swiss terror years) by journalist Marcel Gyr. 

According to Gyr’s research, former Foreign Minister Pierre Graber conducted a secret meeting with the PLO in 1970 in an effort to prevent further terrorist attacks. Switzerland felt the impact of several attacks, such as the bombing that caused a Swissair plane to crash in Würenlingen, shortly after take-off from Zürich, killing all 47 people on board.
