Winter makes early return to Swiss mountains

Snowfall has forced the closure of mountain roads and the temporary suspension of train services particularly in eastern Switzerland.

Officials said trains between the prestigious resorts of Zermatt and St Moritz operate only with delays as power lines near Disentis were cut on Sunday morning.

Trains between Chur and Arosa were also temporarily suspended after a tree had fallen on a power line.

More than ten alpine mountain passes, including the Gotthard Pass, are closed for road traffic according to the Touring Club.

Weather services recorded up to 70cm of fresh snow in mountainous regions.
