Ammann leads after first jump of Four Hills
Simon Ammann of Switzerland has taken the lead after the first jump of the prestigious Four Hills ski jumping event.
The double Olympic gold medallist and 2007 world champion jumped 136.5 metres on Monday in the German resort of Oberstdorf for 145.7 points. Ammann currently tops the World Cup standings.
Wolfgang Loitzl of Austria ranks second after the first session with a jump of 135 metres for 142.5 points.
Norway’s Anders Jacobsen had the best jump of the first round with a leap of 138 metres but a poor landing meant he only scored 142.4 points.
The Four Hills Tournament is a combination of four ski jumping World Cup events and has taken place in Germany and Austria every year since 1952. After the World Cup and the Winter Olympics, it is the most sought-after title in ski jumping.
The next three events are at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, on January 1 and then in Austria – at Innsbruck and Bischofshofen – on January 4 and 6 respectively.
