Austria’s Klaus Kröll has won the classic Lauberhorn downhill race ahead of two Swiss ski stars, Didier Cuche and Carlo Janka.

Kröll timed 2’31.28 in Saturday’s World Cup race in the Swiss resort of Wengen while the Cuche and the defending champion finished 0.14 and 0.39 seconds respectively behind him.
“Winning the Lauberhorn race today would have been brilliant,” said 36-year-old Cuche.
The only other Swiss skier to make it into the top 13 on Saturday was Silvan Zurbriggen.
American Bode Miller lost 1.43 seconds on Kröll and finished eighth on the 4’430-metre course.
On Friday, Janka came second the World Cup super-combined event – a shortened downhill and a slalom – which was won by Ivica Kostelic of Croatia.
A men’s slalom World Cup competition is scheduled in Wengen on Sunday.
