Band wants to make Euro love

The Basel-based pop group, Lovebugs, will represent Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in Moscow in May.

The Lovebugs were chosen from 55 singers and groups who submitted songs to Swiss television.

A spokesman for the public broadcaster said the song to be performed by the five-man band would be announced in the middle of February.

Eurovision is one of the most watched, non-sporting events in the world.

However, Swiss entries have fared poorly in recent years when the winners have usually come from eastern Europe.

A rule change this year will mean that the winner will be chosen not only by television viewers but also by members of a jury made up of experts from each country entered in the contest.
