Basel stay in European race

FC Basel have kept their Champions League dreams alive with a win in Romania on Tuesday night.

Basel beat Otelul Galati 3-2 in Bucharest after leading 3-0 right up until halftime. Fabian Frei scored the first goal in the tenth minute, followed by Alex Frei and Marco Streller.

Otelul struck back in the 75th minute and again in the 81st. Some 4,000 spectators gathered to watch the match in the bitter cold.

The win gives Basel a shot at the knockout phase of their final Group C match, where they will face Manchester United in a home game on December 7.

Group leaders Benfica and Manchester both have nine points, followed by Basel with eight and Otelul with no points.
