Bastian Baker wins "Swiss Grammy" newcomer prize

Twenty-year-old singer-songwriter Bastian Baker was voted best new Swiss “breaking act” at the fifth Swiss Music Awards in Zurich on Friday.

Guitar band 77 Bombay Street, featuring four brothers from Basel, won best pop album and single with “Up in the Sky”. British singer Adele picked up awards for best international pop album “21” and hit "Rolling in the Deep”.

Swiss rapper Stress won best urban album for “Renaissance II”, DJ Antoine took best dance album for “2011” and the group Dabu Fantastic took home an award for best new talent at the music industry awards – the Swiss music industry's Grammys equivalent.

Three artists are nominated for each of the ten categories at the annual ceremony. Decisions are based on music sales and by jury and public vote.
