Bastl out to Safin in Tashkent

Switzerland's George Bastl has lost his chance of a place in the final of the ATP tournament in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He was defeated in the semi-final in straight sets by the world number two, Russia's Marat Safin.

Safin made short work of Bastl, who was in his first ATP semi-final this year. He took the first set 6-2, and repeated the score in the second.

A year ago, Bastl made it into the tournaments final, where he was defeated in straight sets by Germany’s Nicolas Kiefer.

In the final Safin faces Italy’s Davide Sanguinetti, who beat Frenchman Julien Boutter 7-6, 7-6 in the other semi-final.
