Apart from the official Swiss pavilion, there will be a separate exhibition staged by the cities of Basel, Geneva and Zurich devoted to water and sustainable solutions.

Presence Switzerland, which promotes the country abroad, said on Monday this would complement its own pavilion that has been developing a project with the theme: "Interaction between urban and rural areas".

"The Shanghai exhibition is a platform of key importance for Switzerland. The two pavilions will have a complementary effect that will create synergies and profile the country in all its diversity," commented Johannes Matyassy, director of Presence Switzerland.

The World Exhibition in Shanghai, which will spread over five square kilometres and will be the largest such event to date, has as its theme: "Better City, Better Life". It is expected to attract 70 million visitors.
