BMW Sauber name new driver

Swiss Formula One team BMW Sauber have named Spain’s Pedro de la Rosa as their second driver for the 2010 season.

The 38-year-old has driven for Arrows and Jaguar and was a test and reserve driver for McLaren for seven years. He joins 23-year-old Kamui Kobayashi, who came on board in December.

Team principal Peter Sauber said they stood to gain from de la Rosa’s experience on one of the sport’s best teams.

In December BMW Sauber were awarded the 13th entry into this year’s Formula One world championship, taking the place of Toyota.

The team are based in Hinwil, near Zurich. German carmaker BMW decided to pull out of auto racing’s top circuit last year and agreed to sell the team back to previous owner, Peter Sauber, provided the team gained a place on the grid in the 2010 season.
