British motorcyclists killed in pile up

A motorbike crash in southeastern Switzerland involving four bikes has left two people dead and two injured,

The accident happened on Tuesday afternoon when a south-bound German motorcyclist collided head on with three of a group of eight British riders coming in the opposite direction on the motorway near Splügen in canton Graubünden.

Two of the Britons, aged 50 and 56 died of their injuries at the scene, and the German and another Briton where flown to hospital in the cantonal capital, Chur, according to the police spokesman. 

Damaged bikes and items of luggage were strewn all over the road. The motorway had to be closed for several hours and traffic diverted.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.
