Casanova through to finals

There is no stopping Casanova in the WTA tournament in Brussels Keystone

The Swiss tennis player, Myriam Casanova, has continued her winning streak by making it through to the finals of the WTA tournament in Brussels.

The 17-year-old booked her place in the finals of the $140,000 French Community Championships by defeating Spanish player, Virginia Ruano-Pascual 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 on Saturday.

Casanova will face top-seeded Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario in the final on Sunday, after the Spaniard defeated Emilie Loit of France in 4-0, 6-4.

The win continues a successful WTA season for the world number 119, who reached the third round at Wimbledon last month and got a wildcard entry on the red clay in Brussels.

If she continues in her current form, the St Gallen-based player is likely to earn herself a place in September’s US Open – without having to slog her way through the qualifying rounds.
