The Swiss tennis player, Myriam Casanova, has continued her winning streak by making it through to the finals of the WTA tournament in Brussels.

The 17-year-old booked her place in the finals of the $140,000 French Community Championships by defeating Spanish player, Virginia Ruano-Pascual 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 on Saturday.

Casanova will face top-seeded Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario in the final on Sunday, after the Spaniard defeated Emilie Loit of France in 4-0, 6-4.

The win continues a successful WTA season for the world number 119, who reached the third round at Wimbledon last month and got a wildcard entry on the red clay in Brussels.

If she continues in her current form, the St Gallen-based player is likely to earn herself a place in September's US Open - without having to slog her way through the qualifying rounds.
