Switzerland is a nation of chocolate lovers and according to figures from 2000, each Swiss person munches through 10.1 kilos of the stuff every year. Whether it be dark, milk or white, the Swiss are streets ahead of the competition, with their nearest rival, the Austrians, only managing 9.1 kilos per person per year and the Irish 8.2 kilos. But how did a small nation in the heart of Europe earn a worldwide reputation for all things chocolate? As Swiss Radio International’s Sally Mules (mewls) reports, a revamped visitor centre at Nestlé’s chocolate factory in Gruyères (grew-yeah) provides the mouth-watering answers.
