Cister21 – Lorenz Mühlemann & Christoph Greuter: Heicho – alte und neue Schweizer Landmusik
Ancient / Instrumental. Lorenz Mühlemann and Christoph Greuter are musicians' musicologists who have devoted their entire lives to ancient Swiss music. In Trachselwald, a village in the Bernese Emmental region, they run a museum which exhibits all of the country's zithers. In Switzerland these lute-like instruments had their heyday from the 17th to 19th century. Back then the Bernese "Hanottere", a neck zither version, was especially popular among aficionados. This valuable album, entitled Heicho (Coming Home), resurrects sounds of a past era. The programme of these virtuoso musicians ranges from ancient compositions to period style originals, all played on historical instruments.
