Defender Senderos joins AC Milan

Swiss national football player Philippe Senderos will move on loan from Arsenal to AC Milan in a deal worth up to €14 million (SFr22.6 million).

The 23-year-old defender underwent a successful medical check in the north Italian city on Tuesday.

He will stay with the Serie A team on loan for a year. The initial part of the deal is worth €4 million, according to the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Arsenal have apparently agreed to accept a further €10 million for the sale of Senderos to AC Milan after the one-year loan is complete.

The total figure would make Senderos, who moved to London from Servette Geneva in 2003, the most expensive Swiss footballer of all time. In 2000 Patrick Müller transferred from Grasshoppers Zurich to Olympique Lyon in a deal worth €7.9 million.

Senderos is the second Swiss to play for AC Milan. Johann Vogel spent the 2005 season with the 17-time Italian champions.
