The Swiss number two (WTA 33) came into Sunday's match as the slight favourite against a player ranked 15 places below her in the world standings. But Schnyder's hopes of winning her first title in two and a half years faded fast in the Austrian sunshine.

The 22-year-old from Basel managed to win just five games in a 3-6, 2-6 defeat.

Tulyaganova's victory was only her second on the WTA tour and her first outside of her homeland. Last season, the 19-year-old won her first tournament in her home city of Tashkent.
