Autumn in Switzerland was the second warmest on record, according to the national weather service.

MeteoSwiss said on Monday that temperatures were about two degrees centigrade above the long-term average. Only the autumn of 2006 was warmer.
There was also more sunshine. The weather service said areas north of the Alps were blessed with 30 per cent more sunshine. The downside was below average rainfall.
Northern Switzerland received only 40 to 70 per cent of the usual amount of precipitation for this time of year, and much of the country saw no rain at all in November.
However, MeteoSwiss is forecasting that wet weather will return in December. On Friday, rain is expected to fall across the country. It could turn to snow on Saturday as temperatures drop to freezing or near freezing in many areas.
