Federer and Wawrinka advance in Melbourne

Roger Federer is still on course for a fourth Australian Open title Keystone

Swiss tennis players Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka have both cruised into the third round of the Australian Open.

Top seed Roger Federer beat Romania’s Victor Hanescu 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 on Thursday and now faces 31st seed Albert Montanes from Spain.

Britain's Prince William, who was visiting Australia, watched from the VIP section as Federer won in straight sets.

Wawrinka, seeded 19, beat Igor Kunitsyn from Russia 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in the second round on Wednesday and now faces 14th seed Marin Cilic from Croatia.

The two other Swiss who had reached the second round saw their tournament come to an end on Thursday. Marco Chiudinelli took the first set off Serbian third seed Novak Djokovic but ended up losing 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3.

Stefanie Vögele lost 6-4, 6-0 to seventh seed Victoria Azarenka from Belarus.
