Federer breezes through Basel second round
World tennis number two Roger Federer has won his second round match in the Swiss Indoors tournament in Basel in straight sets.
Federer beat Serbia’s 46th ranked Janko Tipsarevic comfortably by 6-3, 6-4 in the one hour match on Wednesday.
The Swiss served up eight aces to Tipsarevic’s two and did not drop a single point on his first service. Federer had won their past two encounters.
He is the only Swiss left in this year’s tournament after Marco Chiudinelli was knocked out on Tuesday.
The tournament is celebrating its 40-year jubilee this year. Federer won it for three straight years before he was beaten by Novak Djokovic in last year’s final.
