Britain’s Andy Murray remains in fourth on 5,035.
Better news for Swiss tennis however was that Stanislaw Wawrinka’s deep run in New York – he reached the quarterfinals of a grand slam event for the first time – propelled him from 27 in the world rankings to 20. His career high is nine, which he reached in June 2008.
Patty Schnyder was rewarded for reaching the third round by overtaking compatriot Timea Bacsinszky to regain the title of highest-ranked Swiss woman. Schnyder climbed from 53 to 44, while Bacsinszky fell from 42 to 45.
