Federer falls to Djokovic in Dubai final

Swiss tennis star Roger Federer has been beaten in straight sets by world number three Novak Djokovic in the final in the Dubai tennis championships.

The Serbian played an impressive match to win 6-3, 6-3. The victory follows on from Djokovic’s defeat of Federer in the semi-finals of the Australian Open in January, also in straight sets.

Djokovic outplayed the Swiss maestro and world number two in the first set and recovered from 1-3 down in the second as Federer displayed constant problems with his timing and rhythm.

Djokovic wins the $1.6-million (SFr1.5 million) event for the third time in a row.

Federer had enjoyed some time off with his family following his defeat in Melbourne and last won in Dubai in 2007.

“I had a tough start and a tough end but Novak played a solid tournament all the way through and deserved to win,” said Federer. “It was a tough end for me but still a great tournament.”
