The Serbian played an impressive match to win 6-3, 6-3. The victory follows on from Djokovic’s defeat of Federer in the semi-finals of the Australian Open in January, also in straight sets.

Djokovic outplayed the Swiss maestro and world number two in the first set and recovered from 1-3 down in the second as Federer displayed constant problems with his timing and rhythm.

Djokovic wins the $1.6-million (SFr1.5 million) event for the third time in a row.

Federer had enjoyed some time off with his family following his defeat in Melbourne and last won in Dubai in 2007.

"I had a tough start and a tough end but Novak played a solid tournament all the way through and deserved to win,” said Federer. “It was a tough end for me but still a great tournament."
