Federer gets off to good start on Indoors court

Roger Federer made a winning return from a six-week break on Monday, beating Olivier Rochus of Belgium 6-3, 6-4 at his hometown Swiss Indoors tournament.

The top-ranked player looked rested and refreshed in Basel after last playing on September 20, when he helped Switzerland beat Italy in the Davis Cup.

Federer broke Rochus' serve in the sixth game of the first set and fifth game of the second.

Federer is chasing a fourth straight title at the €1.75 million (SFr2.64 million) Swiss Indoors, where he once worked as a ballboy.

Next up for the Swiss star is Italy's Andreas Seppi (ATP 38), who defeated the other Swiss playing on Monday, Stéphane Bohli (ATP 148), 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. Federer has never lost a set to Seppi.

Federer is seeded to meet third-ranked Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the final. and agencies
