Federer goes through to Madrid Masters final
Top ranked Roger Federer will meet second seed Rafael Nadal in Sunday’s Madrid Open tennis tournament.
The Swiss champion beat David Ferrer of Spain 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 on Saturday’s semifinal.
“I served really well – that was some of my best serving in a long time. I knew on clay I was always going to go through a tougher period as well and that’s what happened in the second set,“ Federer said.
It is his first final since the Australian Open in January.
It will also be the first meeting between Federer and Nadal since last year’s decider in Madrid which Federer won.
Nadal is 14-0 on clay this season, winning titles in Monte Carlo and Rome.
