The teenager from Basel, who is seeded fourth, rallied after a first-set tiebreaker loss to take the next two sets.

Federer saved five break points at 2-1 down in the second set before breaking Sluiter's serve a game later. He seemed more in control of his game, and wrapped up the match with a scorecard of 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.

In his fourth semifinal appearance of the season, Federer is set to face Australia's Lleyton Hewitt in what is set to be a tough match.
