Food poisoning case in children’s holiday camp
Twenty-seven people from western Switzerland have been hospitalised for food poisoning while on summer camp near Guin, canton Fribourg.
On Tuesday morning, three of them, aged eight to 15, were still in hospital.
The origin of the poisoning, which hit 18 children and nine adults is thought to be a potato salad which wasn’t stored well enough to resist high temperatures, which have been affecting the region recently.
On Monday evening nine ambulances came to the rescue of half of the camp’s participants, who were vomiting and writhing on the floor.
An inquest is still to determine however whether tap water or the water from the Lake of Schiffenen, where the children were camping, could be a cause of the poisoning.
The camp has since been interrupted.
