Fribourg prepares for Ice Hockey quarter finals

Fribourg celebrate their decisive win on Sunday which put them through to the ice hockey quarter finals later this week Keystone

Following a nail-biting match on Sunday, Fribourg are bracing themselves for the Swiss national ice hockey league quarter finals which kick off on Thursday.

Fribourg and Rapperswil-Jona scraped through to the playoffs on Sunday making Langau and Ambri face the relegation playouts.

The result was a bitter disappointment to Langau who narrowly missed making the quarter-final playoffs. For Ambri, it ends an unsuccessful season. They had been tipped as possible title contenders but have finished 10th out of 12.

In the quarter finals, jubilant Fribourg now face the challenge of seeing off Lugano who are top of the division one league table.
Rapperswil-Jona, who finished seventh in the league, have been drawn against the Zurich Lions. They will have to fight hard to beat the Zurich team who took second place in the closing league table.

Davos will face Bern and Zug will face Kloten in the remaining two quarter finals.

Ambri on the other hand will face Chur in the relegation playouts with Langau pitched against La Chaux-de-Fonds.

All the teams have everything to play for in Saturday’s playouts as they fight the relegation threat and try to stay afloat in the first division.
