Kloten's goalkeeper Pavoni had a busy afternoon in Fribourg Keystone

Fribourg-Gottéron produced the only convincing win in Sunday's hockey action, defeating Kloten six-nil, while three of the day's matches were drawn.

The Dragons didn’t give the Flyers any breathing space on the rink. Ten minutes were all Fribourg needed to warm up the scoring machine.

Leuenberger opened the proceedings with his first goal after 12 minutes. Lüssy followed suit just seconds later, and Leuenberger left Kloten’s Pavoni struggling a few minutes afterwards.

After the first break, Fribourg kept the pressure up in a free-flowing game. The Dragons’ Canadian Roy scored in the 24th minute, before Leuenberger pursued his hot streak with his third goal.

The pocket-sized forward wasn’t satisfied with a hat trick on Sunday though. A fourth goal crowned in the final period what must have been a satisfying afternoon’s work.

In what had promised to be one of the day’s highlights, Zug defeated Lugano 3-2 in tough, hard-fought game. The Bianconeri stars spent their time playing catch-up with the home side, who nailed the lid shut on the visitors halfway through the match.

No other winners

The rest of Sunday’s matches ended in draws. The Zurich Lions walked away with only one point for their weekend’s work after drawing two-all with Ambri at the Hallenstadion.

A different rink, but the same scoreline for the match between Bern and Davos at the Allmend in front of more than 13,000 spectators.

The last two teams on the league ladder also drew, Langnau losing valuable points in Chur. The final score was one-all, meaning the Tigers missed a chance to keep in touch with eighth place and a ticket to the final round.

On Saturday, Davos had beaten Zug 3-2, Lugano defeated Bern 4-3, Lausanne won 2-3 in Ticino against Ambri, Kloten made the cantonal derby against Zurich its own 4-3 and Langnau and Fribourg drew two-all in the Emmental.

Davos still leads the standings with 33 points. Ambri is second, one point ahead of Lugano and Zug, and two in front of Bern.

Fribourg has lept ahead of Zurich on goal-average after Sunday’s win, and Lausanne is in eighth place. Rapperswil and Kloten are just two points behind on 22, but with a match in hand.

Langnau is second-last on 18 points, while Chur closes out the league with just 10 points from 24 matches.
