Generally they do ordinary jobs, but some were representing less common professions, such as vehicle locksmiths.

2014 was the first time apprentices from all across the board gathered in one place as part of the same event, to take part in competitions for trainees.

Apprentices often train and practice for the high-profile competitions for months. Performing complicated or technical tasks under time pressure and the watchful gaze of a panel of judges and crowds of onlookers is no easy task.

The Swiss Skills event is a huge exhibition in the capital city, Bern. Aside from the apprentice championships, it is made up of experts showing off their skills and plenty of apprentices from every imaginable career answering questions from curious youngsters, looking for their next step in life.

Around 1000 young people in 70 different jobs took part in Swiss Skills. Over the course of four days around 155,000 people came to see how others work and what different jobs involve.
