Government cancels auction for GSM licences
The Federal Communications Commission has cancelled a planned auction of GSM mobile phone licences, after two of the bidders pulled out.
The auction was to take place two weeks ago but was postponed after One.Tel Global Wireless Holdings and Telenor Mobile Communications dropped out of the bidding.
Their exit left only Swisscom, Orange and diAX in the running for the three licences. They will now be awarded the frequencies.
The GSM sale is separate from the auction of four UMTS licences due to begin on November 13.
