Heuberger set for Shanghai surprise?
Along with Michel Kratochvil, Swiss doubles specialist Ivo Heuberger was also celebrating victory in the singles tournament in Shanghai on Wednesday.
Heuberger enjoyed belated success in one of the last first round matches to be completed in the Chinese tournament.
The Swiss number four overcame South Africa’s Neville Godwin in straight sets (6-4, 7-6) to complete only his fourth singles win on the ATP Tour.
A regular member of the country’s Davis Cup team on account of his doubles prowess, Heuberger now has the opportunity to reach the quarter-finals of a singles tournament for the first time this season.
Standing in his way, though, will be Germany’s Rainer Schüttler (ATP 59), the highest ranking of the tournament’s remaining players, following the first round exit of world number two Andre Agassi.
