In a repeat of last year's final, South Africa beat Thailand on Thursday to set up Friday's decider. The South African pairing of Amanda Coetzer and Wayne Ferreira are aiming to become the first country to successfully defend the title.

Nonetheless, Hingis and Federer remain the tournament favourites following their convincing 3-0 victories over Thailand and the hosts Australia.

In Friday's opening singles matches, Coetzer faces a difficult task against Hingis, who has beaten her eight times in 10 meetings since 1996. Federer will face Ferreira for the first time.
