Ralph Krueger, coach of Switzerland’s national ice hockey team, will leave the team before his contract expires, stepping down after the Vancouver Games.

He will be replaced by Zurich’s ZSC Lions coach Sean Simpson, whose eventual appointment had been announced months earlier.
The Swiss Ice Hockey Federation said the early termination of Kreuger’s contract had been “jointly decided after intense deliberation and discussion”.
“With this decision, we can from now on concentrate 100 per cent on the Olympic tournament, and that is the most important thing for Swiss ice hockey. It’s only about the national team and their success,” Krueger said.
Krueger, a Canadian and former player in Germany’s Bundesliga, has been head coach of the Swiss squad for the past 13 years.
Simpson, also of Canada, will have to finish his term with the Lions, which expires on May 1.
