Switzerland's Basil Hoffmann has taken ninth place at the épée fencing World Cup event in Bern.

Hoffmann’s ninth place at the 38th Bern Grand Prix represents his best World Cup result yet, after his recent rise to fame in France.

At last year’s world championships in Nîmes, Hoffmann took the silver medal. Since then, he has performed well on the World Cup circuit, finishing in the top 20 at Paris, Budapest, Barcelona, Bratislava and Montreal.

The Bern World Cup event, which ended on Sunday, was won by Italy’s Alfredo Rota, followed by compatriot Paolo Milanoli and the Hungarian Attila Fekete. Other Swiss results included Benjamin Steffen (15) and Michael Kauter (39).
