Arthur Honegger. Cantate de Noël. swissmusic

Works by Swiss composer Arthur Honegger: Une Cantate de Noël (1952/53); Horace victorieux 'mimed symphony' (1920/21); Cello Concerto (1929); Prélude, Fugue et Postlude from the ballet-melodrama Amphion (1929/1948). BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales. Swiss conductor Thierry Fischer. Honegger's last composition, and one of his best-loved works, was his Christmas cantata, Une Cantate de Noël, which he composed for the Basle Chamber Choir and its founder and conductor Paul Sacher. A notable feature is the intertwining of traditional carols in French and German: appropriate for multilingual Switzerland and also perhaps symbolizing peace among nations seven years after the conclusion of World War II.
